Microsoft
selfEXPRESSION for Designers
What do you do when you’re Microsoft and you want to take on Mac’s loyal following of graphic designers. Throwing money at it isn’t gonna work. That’s like David throwing nickels at Goliath’s toes and hoping that will take him down. However, maybe the truth would work. Maybe if we could get a credible group of seriously good creative designers to put down their apples and pick up some Windows, they’d know how good Expression can be. And then maybe they’d talk about it truthfully with other Designers. But who, oh who could we get. Hey. How about Mess?
We said openly, loudly and clearly to as many Designers we could reach that we, Mess, would do the undoable--ween ourselves off Mac and give Microsoft’s Expression an honest try. We swore to our brethren that 1) we would not pull any punches, 2) share the process along the way, and 3)share our Source Code every step of the way. In other words, we’d share everything--the good, the bad and the ugly--in an open on-line journal.
We took on all questions and delivered answers. We embraced all doubters. And through it all, we kept our MacBooks closed and our Windows wide open. And we found that we were happy, still thrilled with the glorious act of design and quite full of Expression.
We offered trial of Expression to the wide world of Designers. We don’t think we killed Goliath, but we’re sure we winged him.
